Biggest Disappointments of the Week: Offense

It’s hard to choose the biggest disappointment for the offense of the Chiefs, as most have been contributing in a lights-out manner. There was a handful of disappointments, although it’s more against this position as a whole.

The offensive line for the Chiefs, more particularly left tackle Eric Fisher, was rather atrocious. Notwithstanding there was only one sack on Mahomes throughout the game, the offensive line almost did more harm than good. The countless penalties on the offensive line were very costly against the Chiefs offense. Fisher had a rather subpar performance, dealing with penalties throughout the game.

Biggest Disappointments of the Week: Defense

This player was not utilized as he should be. He didn’t see a lot of snaps, which is definitely not good. He’s considered one of the top players for the Chiefs defense, even if that’s not saying much.

Defensive end Chris Jones was admittedly not used often, but he also was not able to capitalize on the times he was used. While I don’t think the blame lies entirely on his shoulders, I definitely think he should have a bit more production for the Chiefs defense. They could certainly use it.

The Wrap

To say this game was anything short of an emotional rollercoaster filled with bumps, bruises, twists, turns, and anything else you see fit, would be crazy. It was definitely a game that tested both the offense and defense for the Chiefs, yet they ultimately prevailed.

Mahomes had a spectacular performance. It seems he took a second to breathe and relax, not letting the pressure of the crowd at Mile High get to him. After trailing by 2 scores, Mahomes led the Chiefs to two touchdown drives. Nobody, absolutely nobody, would have predicted the amount of success he’s having. In fact, Mahomes has 1,200 passing yards in the first 4 games of a season. That has never been done in franchise history. He’s averaging 300 passing yards and 3.5 touchdowns per game.  A truly remarkable outing in a tough divisional matchup against the Broncos for the second-year quarterback.

Although the offense and defense struggled, they both stepped up when it counted. Key players like Kareem Hunt, Kendall Fuller, and Dee Ford performed very well, but there were also some who didn’t perform all that great. Namely, the offensive line and defensive end Chris Jones. Maybe this defense will cost the Chiefs games in the future, but for now, fans can enjoy being undefeated heading into Week 5.
