Scouting the enemy: Can the Kansas City Chiefs finally defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers?
By Kody Latham
The Steelers had a rough Sunday that ended up with a tie against the Browns. What Changes were made from last season to this one that made this possible?
Wow, what a week The Kansas City Chiefs have had. The Patrick Mahomes era started off with a bang; it just was not from Mahomes. Instead, Tyreek Hill decided to delay the first series for the Chiefs by returning the first touch of the season 91 yards for a touchdown. Once Mahomes finally took the field, he looked calm and comfortable, which was reassuring for Chiefs fans. The explosion of offense that fans were privy to on Sunday was something that has not happened in Kansas City for years. The defense held the Chargers to 12 points until the fourth quarter when the Chiefs took their foot off the gas, but anyone will tell you that the defense needs some serious work.
All of this is important because the upcoming opponent this week is one that the Chiefs have struggled to beat since Andy Reid has taken over. While Reid has done a great job owning the AFC West since he came into town, he has not had anywhere near the same luck against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Reid has only managed to beat the Steelers once during his tenure with the Chiefs, and that was when Landry Jones was standing in for an injured Ben Roethlisberger. Other than that lone victory, Kansas City has lost four out of their five meetings. If the Chiefs ever hope to make a deep playoff run or to go to the super bowl, they are going to have to get over the hump when it comes to the Steelers. Funny enough this week may be the perfect time to do so.
Pittsburgh seems to be a mess right now. With Le’Veon Bell deciding to not to report to the Steelers facility this week, they are down a player that amassed 1,900 yards from scrimmage last season. While that is a big blow in and of itself, it seems that Bell’s continued holdout is having an adverse effect on the team as a whole.
Pittsburgh turned the ball over six times on Sunday, this is unusual for any team in the NFL, but doing it against a team that went 1-32 over the past two years should be fighting for Steelers fans. Pittsburgh seemed out of sorts all day on Sunday, what the exact reason as to why the team didn’t look like themselves no one seems to know, but there is some serious drama going on in the Steel City. Looking past these issues, what changes have happened for the Steelers on offense and defense heading into their game with the Chiefs this weekend?
