The list of inactives are out for the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers and Eric Berry won’t be playing as expected for K.C.

Eric Berry will not play for the Kansas City Chiefs as they face the L.A. Chargers as expected, which means the team starts the season in an important rivalry game without its best defender.

Berry has been dealing with a sore heel for the bulk of training camp, and it’s been nearly one full month since the star safety has even been able to practice for the Chiefs. The team has maintained a positive spin in the face of reporter questions, stating he’s improving every day, but clearly Berry still has a way to go.

Berry entered the game for the Chiefs as doubtful, so the game plan coming into Sunday’s contest likely wasn’t including Berry in the first place. To be without Berry as well as fellow starting safety Daniel Sorensen, who is out for at least the next several weeks with a broken tibia among other injuries, means the Chiefs’ secondary will be tested in terms of talent and depth.

As for the Chargers, they are also suffering a key injury this afternoon with the absence of Joey Bosa in the line-uop. It was expected, just like Berry, which means the Chargers have also been planning to work around it, but they will no doubt miss the talented third-year pass rusher and the attention of the Chiefs offense now focuses on Melvin Ingram as the primary rushing threat.

As for other inactives, the Chiefs haven’t activated hardly any of the newer faces on the team which means we won’t get any look at recent waiver claims like Austin Reiter or Ike Boettger along the offensive line. We also won’t see the recent trade pickup of Charvarius Ward from the Dallas Cowboys.

Here’s the full list of inactives for the Kansas City Chiefs:

  • S Eric Berry
  • RB Darrel Williams
  • CB Charvarius Ward
  • OL Austin Reiter
  • OL Kahlil McKenzie
  • OL Ike Boettger
  • DL Justin Hamilton

On the flip side, the Chargers won’t have T.Y. McGill active for the team which means he won’t get to face his former employer until at least later in the season if at all.

The full list of inactives for the Los Angeles Chargers:

  • WR Geremy Davis
  • CB Brandon Facyson
  • LB Emmanuel Ellerbee
  • OL Scott Quessenberry
  • OL Forrest Lamp
  • DL TY McGill
  • DE Joey Bosa
