The Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly the first to call on veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick and he will visit Arrowhead shortly.

The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly struck first when reaching out to the representatives for Orlando Scandrick shortly after he was released by the Washington Redskins, per Ian Rapoport.

The Chiefs have expressed interest in adding a potential cornerback during training camp with the recent visit from Bashaud Breeland. While Breeland is still waiting to make his decision, taking multiple visits even after his stop in K.C., the team is apparently not waiting for him to make up his mind by reaching out immediately after Scandrick was waived.

Scandrick is a 9-year NFL veteran who has never played outside of Dallas where he’s served as a valuable and versatile contributor in the Cowboys’ secondary for most of the last decade. Their significant draft investments in the last couple years allowed them to let Scandrick walk this year and Washington signed him in free agency. However, the Redskins are now quite comfortable with younger prospects on the roster and they let Scandrick go early in camp in order to find a new home.

The Chiefs will be looking at Scandrick as a potential outside contributor to compete with Steven Nelson and David Amerson. It helps that Scandrick brings a strong amount of experience both inside and outside, although at the age of 31, it will be interesting to see what he has left. Last year was a poor year overall for Scandrick, but he looked very solid in previous seasons, so the Chiefs will need to see if Scandrick is a good bounce back candidate a la Amerson.

Next. Eric Berry and a very concerning safety situation. dark

Any deal for Scandrick will likely be for a single season that won’t break the bank. It will also give the Chiefs some security without forcing a young player like Tremon Smith or Arrion Springs straight into playing time unless they’re absolutely ready.
