The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Kenneth Acker.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have given a former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback a new home as they’ve rearranged several parts of their secondary on Saturday. Michael DiRocco has the news that the Jags have signed defensive backs Kenneth Acker and Bryce Canady and have released  Dexter McDougle and Charlie Miller.

Acker entered the National Football League as the sixth round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2014 NFL Draft after a strong career at Southern Methodist, where he made all-conference second team his final two seasons. He lasted two years in San Francisco, but was traded to Kansas City for future seventh round choice when John Dorsey wanted to bolster the Chiefs secondary late in training camp in 2016.

Acker joined the Chiefs late that summer but Dorsey clearly appreciated his skill set because he made the active roster even on such short notice. He spent the last two years in K.C., playing in 25 games and starting two games in the process. In that time, he had 35 total tackles, 9 passes defended and 1 interception.

Acker was not re-signed after the season in the team’s major secondary purge, a group that included Steven Terrell, Darrelle Revis, Terrance Mitchell and Phillip Gaines. The Indianapolis Colts came calling in April but unfortunately had no room for him after the draft class came in, which meant he was a free agent within a month. Hopefully he can enjoy a bit more success with the Jaguars.

Acker has played in 40 career games with 15 starts over the last four years.
