After attending the preseason Chiefs vs. Texans game, how excited are fans for the debut of Patrick Mahomes?

Well, Addicts, football is back! Having officially relocated to the Kansas City area for work, of course that meant I took advantage of the $6 preseason tickets and went to Arrowhead for the debut of our new QB1.

As I rolled into the parking lot (all too early since I went by myself), the familiar sights and sounds were everywhere. The smoke from BBQs, excited kids running around, and, of course, the super annoying parking situation.

There is a new Tailgate experience that I am going to check out when I don’t have to drive myself home. It is located at the Founders Plaza, right between the K and Arrowhead. Seems pretty cool! Relatively inexpensive beer, live music, and you don’t have to pay to get in. If you don’t have the ability to host your own tailgate, it might be worth checking out.

But we all know I wasn’t there to watch people toss footballs in the parking lot – I was there to see the Wunderkind himself, Patrick Mahomes. Since this is preseason, the Chiefs didn’t do their usual announcement of players. There was the usual pyrotechnics, but not individuals running out of the tunnel—again, delaying our ability to really celebrate Mahomes. Then, we lost the toss. Delayed again!

More from Arrowhead Addict

Finally, it was time. The majority of the offense was on the field already waiting for Mahomes and the huddle, but when he sauntered onto the field the fairly empty stands erupted. Now, I have been to my fair share of Chiefs games – most regular season, but I can say fairly definitively that come regular season, Arrowhead will be rocking. The fans went NUTS. It is clear that THIS moment is what fans have been waiting for. This is the rebirth of a system, the beginning of a dynasty—at least in fans’ eyes.

No one could contain their excitement. Everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting for that Mahomes Magic. For a deep ball to Tyreek Hill or Sammy Watkins or a big play from Travis Kelce complete with dancing. Unfortunately, it didn’t come, but that doesn’t mean fans weren’t pumped.

What got me most excited was envisioning what Arrowhead is going to be like on September 23. The home opener will be unlike any other in recent memory. I would bet we see glimpses of 142.2 when Mahomes takes the field.

While last night’s game wasn’t the prettiest, it certainly gave the impression that Chiefs fans cannot wait for regular season. So everyone, exercise those vocal chords because the Mahomes era starts now, and Arrowhead is coming alive.
