The Tennessee Titans have signed former Kansas City Chiefs safety Steven Terrell after hosting him for a free agent visit.

Another veteran safety is now off of the market with the news that the Tennessee Titans have officially signed Steven Terrell to a contract after hosting the free agent for a recent visit.

The Titans have made a few moves at safety lately after the season-ending injury suffered by Jonathan Cyprien earlier in training camp. Kenny Vaccaro signed with the team shortly thereafter to take over Cyprien’s starting spot, but it’s clear the team was interested in bolstering the position further. Former Chiefs safety Kendrick Lewis is also slated for major playing time in the Titans secondary.

Terrell spent all of last season with the Kansas City Chiefs and did a solid job for the team even though he didn’t arrive until July. He was initially cut before the regular season began but then re-signed with the team a week later and stayed on the active roster for the rest of the regular season. Unfortunately he ended the year on injured reserve after going down against the Oakland Raiders in mid-December.

Terrell played in 10 games for the Chiefs last season and had 3 passes defended and 1 interception. He spent the previous three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and played in a total of 32 games for Pete Carroll, starting five of them as injuries crept into the team’s loaded secondary in 2016.

It’s unknown whether or not the Chiefs would have been interested in an eventual reunion with Terrell but certainly the secondary as it stands has a lot of frustrating game tape from the first preseason loss. General manager Brett Veach might stand pat with what he has at the position but in the wake of Dan Sorensen’s injury, the Chiefs might look thin at safety until he’s able to return.
