Chiefs injury report: Dan Sorensen sits, Sammy Watkins remains out
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs had several players sitting out of practice on Tuesday as they prepare to face the Houston Texans in Thursday’s preseason opener.
It was a thin day in the secondary, especially at safety, during practice on Tuesday for the Kansas City Chiefs. The team not only gave Eric Berry the day off from practice, but Daniel Sorensen also sat out with a knee injury and Leon McQuay had a hamstring issue.
Andy Reid said the team is evaluating Sorensen after he injured his knee but nothing more is known about his condition until the trainers are able to take an extensive look. In his place, Eric Murray and Armani Watts got more time in front of the fans in St. Joseph as training camp rolled on in preparation for the team’s first preseason game on Thursday, a contest against the Houston Texans.
Several other players also sat out of practice, many of them expected as they continue to heal up from previous injuries. Sammy Watkins left practice yesterday with a hip injury and he was once again missing from the team’s offense on Tuesday. Keith Reaser had returned to practice after suffering a quad strain, but he was once again sitting on Tuesday, an apparent sign that he wasn’t as ready as he thought.
Charcandrick West continues to sit out of practice as well due to a concussion, the second in a calendar year for the veteran running back. Rookie linebacker Dorian O’Daniel continues to nurse a thumb injury and tight end Tim Wright sat with an undisclosed illness today. Offensive lineman Dillon Gordon also missed another practice due to a shoulder concern.
The good news is that the starting inside linebackers of Anthony Hitchens and Reggie Ragland look healthy once again after missing a couple practices or more apiece. Eric Fisher is also back at left tackle without any concerns as well.
