Running back

It’s hard to tell whether Charcandrick West’s recent concussion has automatically pushed him to the bottom of the Chiefs depth chart or whether this is a real representation of the current roster, but Damien Williams has a leg up on West when it comes to making the team as the third running back at this juncture.

If you’ve been paying attention, Williams has looked sharp in camp and has earned praise as he adjusts to Andy Reid’s offense. Competition should continue to bring the best out of everyone involved as the Chiefs look for the best potential backfield they can form. It’s an mixed lot of free agents and undrafted homegrown products fighting for the spots behind Kareem Hunt, but it’s one that could end up being one of the NFL’s deepest.

It’s also interesting to note that Spencer Ware has successfully returned from his torn ACL enough to reclaim a No. 2 spot right after Hunt and could vie for some real playing time to keep Hunt fresh as he deals with a hamstring injury.
