Free agent wide receiver Eli Rogers is back with the Pittsburgh Steelers after originally visiting the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers apparently needed some motivation before deciding to re-sign one of their own in wide receiver Eli Rogers.

The slot receiver has healed up nicely after a late season ACL tear, and he visited with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. However, he’s now officially returned to the Steelers for a fourth season after signing a reported one-year deal with the team. Terms of the deal outside of length were not originally disclosed.

Brett Veach has brought in a few interesting free agents recently to check them out as the team gears up for training camp. Undrafted free agent running back Marty Carter just went unselected in the supplemental draft, but Veach clearly wanted to see what the former Division II player of the year had in him at the pro level. Rogers was brought in over the same weekend as a potential candidate to help in the slot. Then there’s the hype over the current visit from free agent cornerback Bashaud Breeland.

Rogers was an interesting free agent for the Chiefs to bring in due to the presence of so many targets already among the wide receivers, beginning with Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins. Chris Conley is returning from injury and Jehu Chesson and Demarcus Robinson are also present and vying for more targets. Do the Chiefs have room for another wideout? Veach clearly believes so because he also brought in wide receiver Kendall Wright earlier this offseason.

Rogers has spent his first three years in the NFL with the Steelers, moving his way up the depth chart as an undrafted free agent to earning significant playing time over the last two seasons. Last year he tore his ACL in January in a playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he’s returned healthy enough already to be ready for training camp.
