Sam Beal is drawing interest from a “few AFC teams” for the upcoming 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft and the cost will be a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Will the Kansas City Chiefs make a move in the upcoming 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft?

That’s the question for many Chiefs fans at this stage of the offseason, especially when so little is going on. Free agency has largely passed. The NFL Draft has come and gone. Teams have made the majority of moves they’re going to make for the regular season, which is why the idea of adding someone young and talented in mid-July has some such a draw to it.

For the Chiefs, this is a very interesting supplemental draft class. Typically a whole draft “class” will come and go without any teams interested, but this year’s list of eligible prospects includes higher-ceiling prospects than normal. It also doesn’t hurt that this draft class is primarily comprised of defensive backs, a perceived area of need for the Chiefs.

Sam Beal is widely considered to be the top available player in the draft, a cornerback out of Western Michigan, and the Chiefs were present at his recent pro day. Then again, so was every other NFL team. However, the latest pre-draft report on Beal is that multiple teams in the AFC are “very interested”. Check out Matt Miller’s info:

Miller himself had Beal going in the first round overall in his 2019 NFL mock draft, but unfortunately Beal was ineligible to remain in school to add another year of experience and development. Teams will now rely on him to learn more at the pro level, and he’ll also have to adjust as a late summer arrival.

The Chiefs do have two second round picks in 2019, their own and then the one they picked up from the L.A. Rams in the Marcus Peters trade. Maybe they would be willing to deal one to pick up a talented cornerback in return. The trade for Peters already netted fourth round pick Armani Watts who should compete at free safety for Ron Parker’s old position on the team.

If the Chiefs are going to bid on Beal, it sounds like they might have to give up a second. Is that too much? Are they really that interested? It’s a complete mystery until July 11.
