The Kansas City Chiefs were listed as one of the NFL teams who have met with defensive back Adonis Alexander before the upcoming supplemental draft.

Typically the NFL’s Supplemental Draft can come and go without much in the way of fanfare due to a lack of interesting players, but the 2018 edition has a few prospects drawing some interest if they can gain eligibility.

Virginia Tech defensive back Adonis Alexander expected to draw the most potential interest from a group that also includes Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal and Mississippi DB Brandon Bryant.

Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com recently noted that the Kansas City Chiefs were one team interested in Alexander and that they’d already met with him. along with a number of other teams. Pauline also notes that 26 teams viewed his workout, so it’d actually be a bit of a letdown if the Chiefs didn’t actually send someone to talk to him there.

Pauline had a list of some of the teams who had met him but it’s clear that there are even more to come, per Mike Garafolo, so there’s no need to read too much into the Chiefs being a team listed as spending time with him—at least compared to others.

On paper, it’s easy to believe the Chiefs need more talent at cornerback given the sheer number of players they’ve turned over from last year. Terrance Mitchell went to the Browns. Phillip Gaines is now with the Bills. Darrelle Revis was released and remains unsigned. Kenneth Acker is now in Indianapolis. Even at safety, Ron Parker was released and Steven Terrell’s contract ran out.

However, let’s be careful to assume that the Chiefs are going to be interested in Alexander out of some great need. The team has made it clear that they actually like where they sit in terms of talent. Brett Veach brought in Kendall Fuller, David Amerson and Tremon Smith to join Steven Nelson, Will Redmond and Keith Reaser along with myriad undrafted free agents.

Just know that if the Chiefs make a move for Alexander or another draft pick in this year’s supplemental draft, it will be because they are a prospect worth taking and developing in that particular round, not because Brett Veach forgot he needed a cornerback.
