An underrated start to the Andy Reid era in Kansas City. A season with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
Coming in at No. 4on my top 5 seasons with Andy Reid is the head coach’s very first season in Kansas City. It was quite a turnaround from the previous season under former head coach Romeo Crennel, whom ended his short tenure with a 2-14 dud. But Reid also wasn’t taking over a completely talentless roster, as the Chiefs sent 6 players to the Pro Bowl in 2012.
Reid began the year addressing K.C.’s most critical position of need trading for quarterback Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers. Thus officially beginning the ‘Reid and Smith era’.
Equipped with the first overall selection, the Chiefs selected Eric Fisher, tackle out of Central Michigan. The selection of Fisher solidified the Chiefs starting left tackle position for the foreseeable future. The Chiefs were also able to acquire their heir apparent to Tony Gonzalez in tight end Travis Kelce in the third round.
There began a feeling that K.C. was finally going to show its true potential under new coach Reid. And for the most part they were right.
