Jim Nagy, a former national scout for the Kansas City Chiefs, was named the next executive director of the Senior Bowl on Tuesday.

Former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage has directed the efforts of the Reese’s Senior Bowl for the last six years, but a change was announced on Tuesday that will put the pre-draft exhibition under new leadership. Jim Nagy has been announced as the new executive director for the Senior Bowl after working in the NFL for nearly 20 years.

Nagy might be a familiar name for those fans paying attention to the front office and personnel back in Scott Pioli’s era. Nagy earned important experience with the New England Patriots for seven seasons as a scout, and when Pioli was hired away by Clark Hunt to replace Carl Peterson as the Kansas City Chiefs general manager in 2009, Nagy quickly followed along with fellow Pats scout Marvin Allen.

Nagy worked in Kansas City for four seasons under Pioli, moving from regional to national scout in his tenure. Unfortunately for Nagy, his stint with the team would end after a single season as national scout due to the team’s inability to win under Pioli’s watch (and the hostile work environment created  at Arrowhead with Pioli as GM). Nagy was most recently a scout for the Seattle Seahawks before now taking over the Senior Bowl.

It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs remain as enamored with Senior Bowl players moving forward as they have been in recent drafts. Kareem Hunt was named Outstanding Player for the North squad two offseasons ago and the Chiefs traded up to get the running back out of Toledo. One round earlier, the Chiefs had also drafted defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon in the second round, who also stood out at the Senior Bowl.

Previous players who have played in the Senior Bowl only to find themselves selected by Kansas City include Eric Fisher, Dee Ford, Steven Nelson and Eric Murray. Even this year, the team drafted Texas A&M safety Armani Watts in the fourth round and Clemson linebacker Dorian O’Daniel in the third. Both players were Senior Bowl participants in 2018.
