Kansas City Chiefs not listed among NFL’s top 10 offenses

Chris Wesseling of NFL.com says that the NFL’s most potent offenses don’t include the Kansas City Chiefs despite the presence of several weapons.

Offseason lists are as meaningful (or meaningless) as the digital paper they’re printed on, but we have to take exception to the latest set of rankings from Chris Wesseling at NFL.com, who attempts to get the NFL’s top 10 offenses right but fails miserably.

We have no problem with several teams on the list. Each and every one of them are able to put up a quick 30-plus points even against some of the league’s better defensive units. The New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, L.A. Rams and Green Bay Packers are all feared offenses and anyone arguing otherwise is just trolling.

But where in the world are the Kansas City Chiefs? They’re given an honorable mention, a quick namedrop to appease anyone who might say, “What about [team name]?” But that’s not nearly enough—not for this offense.

For anyone who needs a refresher, it begins at quarterback where a stable presence has been replaced by one with an unlimited ceiling. Patrick Mahomes is an unknown but to pretend he’s not a player with superior talents is silly. It’s his vision, his touch, his instincts, his arm strength, his confidence, his demeanor. It’s all already above average in the NFL and it’s only a matter of time before he’s a household name for the average NFL fan.

If it helps, the Chiefs have surrounded him with weapon after weapon after weapon after weapon. Tyreek Hill is the fastest player in the entire league and he’s done the hard work to round himself out as a player instead of resting on his laurels. Not only is he an elite wide receiver, but his full potential hasn’t been explored, not by longshot.

From there, the Chiefs went out and grabbed another top-tier wide receiver in Sammy Watkins, a player who has dealt with inconsistency and injuries, but the talent is there for Watkins to turn into an A.J. Green type. The Chiefs paid handsomely for the chance to coach him up, and the coaches are clearly ready for the challenge.

Travis Kelce is already an All-Pro tight end who can create mismatches against any defensive unit in the NFL and it’s hard to see this changing with the young Mahomes under center. In addition, the Chiefs return the NFL’s leading rusher from last year in Kareem Hunt, a rookie who will blossom with a full year of experience under his belt.
