The Kansas City Chiefs made their first third round selection with the choice of defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi.
With the 75th overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have selected defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi out of Florida State.
Nnadi provides the Chiefs with a young nose tackle who can help stuff the run and comes with great experience. At 6’1, 317 lbs., he’s certainly quite large although not as big as a Dontari Poe type and he shouldn’t be thought of in quite that way. Nnadi was a third-team All-ACC player for the Seminoles last year with 56 tackles, 10 of them for a loss, and 3.5 sacks.
In previous seasons, Nnadi showed the ability to get after the passer a bit more, so perhaps the Chiefs like what they see overall in his body of work in terms of getting a disruptor. Nnadi had six sacks a year ago and another 10.5 tackles for a loss.
Earlier in the draft, the Chiefs already added some young talent to the defensive line when they traded up to select Breeland Speaks in the second round. Now with Nnadi, the team has radically redefined the front line. The Chiefs now have Speaks, who can come down and play defensive end, along with Nnadi joining Chris Jones, Allen Bailey, Jarvis Jenkins, Rakeem Nunez-Roches and the newly signed Xavier Williams.
The Chiefs have one pick left left in the third round at No. 100 overall, literally the final pick on the books to be taken on Friday night before closing up Day Two.
