For those interested in keeping track of former Chiefs coach Matt Nagy, the new Bears head coach opens offseason workouts on Tuesday.
Matt Nagy’s head coaching career is finally getting underway officially with the beginning of offseason workouts for the Chicago Bears. The team’s brand new head coach will finally get to run things his way as players return for rehab and conditioning workouts to prepare for the upcoming 2018 season.
The Bears and Arizona Cardinals are the two NFL teams kicking things off earlier than anyone else. Teams with new head coaches are allowed under the collective bargaining agreement to have more practice time in the offseason than others, and the Bears and Cards simply scheduled their sessions earlier than the rest.

It will be interesting to watch how Nagy runs things in Chicago, how he responds to being the key guy and ultimately how the Bears perform under new leadership. Nagy spent the last several years helping coach the Kansas City Chiefs offense, including a couple years as the team’s offensive coordinator before being hired away by the Bears this offseason. Nagy also drew interest from the Indianapolis Colts.
The Bears offense has been compared to the Chiefs in terms of potential due to the presence of players who could potentially fit the mold of various Chiefs weapons. Trey Burton was brought in to play Travis Kelce’s role in Nagy’s offense, while Taylor Gabriel is expected to stretch the field a la Tyreek Hill. The presence of new wideout Allen Robinson will also help bolster the offense in a significant way.
This will be Nagy’s first year out from under Andy Reid’s shadow since he first started coaching in 2008 as an intern for the Philadelphia Eagles.
