Chiefs rumors: Tyler Bray will sign with Chicago Bears
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs will apparently lose quarterback Tyler Bray to Matt Nagy and the Chicago Bears if the latest free agency rumors are true.
The Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly interested in bringing back third string quarterback Tyler Bray, but apparently the former Tennessee product is instead following his former offensive coordinator to the Chicago Bears.
Without Bray, the Chiefs will likely identify a prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft to select with a later pick to occupy the spot that Bray has held for the last five years. Bray was originally an undrafted free agent who came in during former general manager John Dorsey’s first offseason with the Chiefs, a live arm from Tennessee who had promise but needed development.
Over time, Bray held off every ounce of competition the Chiefs sent his way, including a couple of fifth round picks like Stanford’s Kevin Hogan and Georgia’s Aaron Murray. For five years, Bray sat on the bench for K.C. as their untested young prospect, yet it was also clear that he was not the future when the team was so quick to move up and take Patrick Mahomes in the first round last year.
Bray will be very familiar with Matt Nagy’s offense and can be another voice in the room to help with Mitchell Trubisky’s development in his second season. Chase Daniel is also there as the primary backup and has working knowledge of Nagy’s style, but Bray has been even closer to the scheme in recent seasons, so perhaps his presence can accelerate the learning curve for the other quarterbacks on the depth chart in Chicago.
