Dustin Colquitt officially re-signs with Kansas City Chiefs
By Matt Conner
After Brett Veach said on Wednesday that both sides were close on a deal, the Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed punter Dustin Colquitt.
Dustin Colquitt has been a special teams fixture for the Kansas City Chiefs since 2005 when they selected him in the third round of the NFL Draft. It was a shockingly high pick but Colquitt has proved any doubters wrong with multiple Pro Bowl appearances and a longevity that has stabilized the position for well over a decade.
On Wednesday, Brett Veach, the team’s general manager, mentioned that the Chiefs and Colquitt were close on another extension and that something would be done soon. Apparently that span of time was intended to signal only several hours, because Colquitt is now officially back in the fold.
Per his agent on Twitter, Colquitt has re-upped for another three years in Kansas City, a deal that could keep him with the team through 2020:
Given the Chiefs cap space (or lack of it) heading into this offseason, some fans were curious whether or not the Chiefs would go with a pair of rookie contracts for both specialists after the success or Harrison Butker in 2017. However, Veach made it clear the team values Colquitt’s performance and experience at the position and both sides were able to work out a deal.

Colquitt hasn’t missed a game since 2008 and made the Pro Bowl as recently as 2016. He’s fourth among active punters in career punting yards and 16th overall in NFL history.
