The Kansas City Chiefs have officially lost wide receiver Albert Wilson on the free agent market after he signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins.
It’s now official: Albert Wilson is no longer a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead the veteran wide receiver took advantage of hitting the open market for the first time by signing a nice new contract with the Miami Dolphins.
As the NFL’s legal tampering period opened up on Monday, the Dolphins were named as the “frontrunners” for Wilson’s services and Ian Rapoport confirms that rumor to be true. The Dolphins will officially sign Wilson to a three-year contract on Wednesday when free agency opens worth up to a reported $24 million. Last year, Wilson had a cap hit of $1.8 million, so you can imagine he’s quite happy with his new payday.
The Dolphins are trying to recover from the offensive loss of Jarvis Landry after trading the star wide receiver to the Cleveland Browns for some draft choices. Landry was tagged and traded as the Dolphins clearly knew they were not interested in paying Landry at a level that he was looking for. The Dolphins also signed Danny Amendola on Tuesday, giving the Fins a pair of new wideouts for Ryan Tannehill (or perhaps a rookie quarterback if they land one).
Wilson had a breakout season for the Chiefs in 2017 with a career high 42 catches for 554 receiving yards. Wilson is also a standout on special teams and is a very willing blocker, which gives the Dolphins a well-rounded player to utilize in nearly every facet of the team’s offense.
