Chiefs rumors: Miami Dolphins named “frontrunner” for Albert Wilson
By Matt Conner
The Miami Dolphins have been named the “frontrunners” at this point to land wide receiver Albert Wilson, who has been with the Chiefs for years.
The Kansas City Chiefs are apparently not only going to allow Albert Wilson to hit free agency and test the open market, but they’re also clearly willing to let him walk away. Wilson has been linked to several teams so far this offseason, but as of now, it seems as if the Miami Dolphins are the current “frontrunners,” according to Ian Rapoport.
The Chiefs have made it clear that they would welcome back Wilson, but surely they have a clear price tag in mind or else their overtures would come with some action attached. The Chiefs are strapped for cash compared to other teams and the position overall at wide receiver is in better shape than other spots on the roster. In addition, general manager Brett Veach has mentioned wanting more speed outside as they transition to Patrick Mahomes at quarterback.
All of this means that Wilson could be left standing outside of K.C. for the first time in his career, but that should suit him just fine. He’s going to get paid on the open market far more than he’s made in K.C. so far, and it looks like there could be some bidding for his services. As one example, the Chicago Bears could use help at wide receiver and Wilson is very familiar with Matt Nagy’s offensive approach.
Rapoport says the Dolphins are willing to pay up and Wilson would be a great candidate to fill the shoes of Jarvis Landry who was recently traded to the Cleveland Browns. Wilson put himself in a good position to show his skills this year as a well-rounded option who is a very willing blocker and a good study on offense. He also had career highs in catches (42 catches), yards (554) and touchdowns (3).
