The Kansas City Chiefs are apparently bringing back Anthony Sherman for another season if reports are true that he’s re-signed with K.C.
Anthony Sherman will be spending a sixth NFL season, and maybe more, with the Kansas City Chiefs if reports are true that the team has re-signed Sherman before free agency was set to begin. Sherman had played out the final year of his most recent contract extension, but apparently the Chiefs did the requisite work to keep him from making it to the open market.
The Chiefs have yet to make an official announcement and no terms of the deal have leaked at all, but had a total cap hit of $1.75 million last season, including bonuses. It was a reduced amount to create cap space after originally signing a three-year, $7 million extension with the Chiefs in 2014.
Sherman has been a tank in the backfield leading the way for Jamaal Charles, Spencer Ware and now Kareem Hunt for the Chiefs the last five seasons. He’s also been a special teams contributor and a popular player with fans for his toughness, great haircut and, let’s not forget, the overalls.
Sherman originally came to the Chiefs in a smaller swap of players that is somehow still paying dividends over a half-decade later for Kansas City. Shortly after he took over the team, John Dorsey sent cornerback Javier Arenas to the Arizona Cardinals for Sherman’s services. Arenas played a single season for the Cardinals and has been out of the NFL since 2014. Sherman has played in 80 regular season games for the Chiefs and next year will add several more.
