Josh Sweat, OLB, Florida State

What I love: Josh Sweat and Lorenzo Carter, as prospects, are very similar. Sweat has a lot of promise and athleticism, and also played in a bizarre role that did not showcase his strengths. One thing Josh Sweat has on the other two on this list, he has flashed the ability to bend around the edge. Sweat was asked to play all long the defensive front, sometimes standing up, and at other times kicking inside to a 3 tech. Sweat possesses adequate strength and is not afraid to do the dirty work upfront.

What needs improvement: Sweat may be better suited as a weak side end in a 4-3. Needs to finish plays with more hustle. Can get swallowed by blockers, needs more active hands. Injury history is a red flag, but was cleared at the combine. I have seen enough on tape to question his overall balance. Needs to learn to keep his hands inside and finish shedding blocks when he twists. Questionable burst.

The Verdict: Josh Sweat would be a big gamble, but one that could pay off. He may need a year to develop, but the athleticism is there for him to play in the league. I worry about his motor the most, he seems to trot to the end of plays away from him. I do believe he could be an above average edge player with the right coaching, and if he put in the right work.
