At the NFL Combine, Brett Veach seemed to signal the idea that Chiefs wide receiver Albert Wilson is destined to join Matt Nagy in Chicago.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Albert Wilson has hit free agency at the right time, on the heels of a career year which also included a breakout performance in the final game of the season with 10 catches on 11 targets and 147 receiving yards. He’s likely going to find a few suitors on the open market, and Chiefs general manager Brett Veach seemed to insinuate that he’s already got a likely location.
When asked about whether or not the Chiefs would re-sign Wilson, Veach was clear that he liked Wilson.
That said, Veach also seemed to say that he’s not expecting to be super-excited, at least about Wilson’s return. Instead, he made it clear that Matt Nagy’s presence with the Chicago Bears (and their serious need for weapons around Mitchell Trubisky) is going to be a serious factor this offseason for Wilson’s services.
Given how rare it is for anyone to give away some sort of rumor at this stage, it was interesting that Veach was so honest about where he has Wilson likely heading. It’s even funnier considering it comes on the heels of Veach saying that he couldn’t openly discuss his own recent trades due to NFL rules and timing about the new league year.
Next: Trade Justin Houston? A hypothetical situation.
Wilson had 42 catches for 554 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns last season for the Chiefs, his fourth in the NFL. Wilson knows Nagy’s offense well and is a well-rounded receiver who can contribute on special teams, can work routes outside and inside and is a very willing blocker. For a Bears team that could use a spark at wideout, Wilson would provide an underrated, all-around performer to help stabilize Trubisky’s performance in year two.
