Andy Reid took to the podium to face reporters at the 2018 NFL Combine and he denied that the Chiefs owner ever meddled in football moves.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters from the 2018 NFL Combine, answering a number of questions about the team, the offseason so far and preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft.
One of the biggest quotes and questions had to do with whether or not he or general manager Brett Veach had to deal with pressure from up top in the organization, namely with team owner Clark Hunt, for certain moves. Most recently the trade involving Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams has brought up considerable questions as to who was responsible for the Chiefs having to trade the star corner for pennies on the dollar.
“He does not interfere with that. That’s not how he operates at all,” said Reid from the Combine.
“There are things out there being said that I’m strongly against.”

- #Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressing some recent reports, adding this bit about Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt. “He does not interfere.”
Reid’s vehement defense of Clark Hunt makes things a bit more interesting then, as fans wonder who exactly forced the issue. A recent interview with Marcus Peters made it clear that he had zero ill will toward Andy Reid, referring to him as a mentor sort of figure and saying he would even miss “Big Red.”
Perhaps even if the relationships were all okay and Hunt wasn’t giving pressure, somehow the Chiefs decided internally to completely blow up the secondary in the end. Having such a turnover machine and ballhawk in the secondary seems like a crazy asset to trade away for two draft picks, none of which were a Day 1 selection, but the Chiefs are dead set on dramatically remaking the entire unit.
Maybe there’s no major directive at all. Maybe it’s as simple as a football decision made between those tasked with being in charge and it’s simply not within our understanding to know the ins and outs, like it or not.
