Kansas City Chiefs fans are left without their star cornerback in 2018. What went on that Chiefs Kingdom doesn’t know about?

The Kansas City Chiefs had another busy news weekend as they released the news about trading cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams. It would seem that the deal has been finalized but fans are left without any indication of what they are getting in return for one of their best young players. It’s looking like fans will have to wait longer as Rams head coach Sean McVay didn’t want to comment on it until the new league year to avoid tampering.

Rumors about what could have happened came from every direction, including that Peters asked to be traded after the loss to the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Other rumors point the finger at the Chiefs organization and being tired of the extra baggage. Fans will most likely never know the full story of what happened as the organization will keep most of it in-house.

Looking forward to 2018 without Peters, there are numerous names that could make an immediate impact at the cornerback position in free agency. The Chiefs can find someone that will cost more money now there or take their chances in the draft when they pick late in the second round. While getting rid of Peters definitely hurts this defense, it does not mean that the team is in a rebuilding year.

Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton will return in 2018 and have to make some decisions on how to run his defense without two of his key players Derrick Johnson and Marcus Peters. There will also be new faces being brought into his scheme including cornerback Kendall Fuller who came over in the Washington trade. Fuller will be stepping up from a depth, slot cornerback position to likely a top two cornerback spot.
