Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was accused of “pushing and shoving” a woman over the weekend, but he claims he is the victim instead.
The Kansas City Chiefs have an emerging situation on their hands which will require time, patience and a strong effort to sift out the truth from the lies in what is being called a “cross complaint.”
Over the weekend, running back Kareem Hunt, who recently finished the regular season as the NFL’s leading rusher as a rookie, was involved in a dispute to which police were called in Cleveland, Ohio. Once on the scene, police reports filed offered competing narratives saying that Hunt had “pushed and shoved” a woman named Abigail Ottinger. In response, Hunt said that she was the one who was actually guilty of assaulting him and his friends.
The full rundown can be read here and it’s worth sorting through the facts as they are laid out to determine for yourself what you think. What is clear is that it’s going to be very difficult for authorities to definitively say what happened, at least without a new witness or a change in story.
Hunt’s dispute, whatever it turns out to be, is the second off-the-field incident that the Kansas City Chiefs must deal with in some way this offseason. The first was the arrest of free agent linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis on multiple charges, including possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Hunt was the team’s third round draft pick last April after trading up to get him. He instantly made headlines in the NFL with a record-setting effort against the New England Patriots in Week 1. He finished the season with 1,327 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns for the Chiefs, only the sixth rookie in NFL history to win the rushing title.
