The Kansas City Chiefs brought in Bennie Logan on a one-year deal in 2017, and it might be one-and-done for the defensive lineman.

One year ago, a major point of conversation about the Kansas City Chiefs offseason was what the team might decide to do with Dontari Poe. One year later, the discussion has now shifted to his replacement, as in what the plans are for the future and Bennie Logan.

Logan was the key defensive addition for the Chiefs last year, a run stopping defensive tackle who had also proven to be more well-rounded as a potential pocket disruptor as well. John Dorsey signed Logan to a one-year deal worth $8 million, the same base amount (sans incentives) that Poe ended up getting from the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.

Replacing Poe was a tall order even though his play had slipped in recent years, and Logan turned in a decent performance in 2017. While he wasn’t the sort of talking point that some fans might have expected, Logan was certainly a capable body along the line for the Chiefs and the idea of bringing him back would be a welcome one given that he knows the coaching staff, the playbook and the teammates. That said, his $8 million price tag might be a bit steep for the production and the Chiefs might want to settle on something cheaper and/or more long-term after assessing the market.

Then again, a lot of teams are hungry for the sort of experienced lineman that Logan is, as many teams need help in the middle. The Philadelphia Eagles are showing exactly what talent along the front lines can do. Even after losing Carson Wentz, they’re still punching their ticket to the Super Bowl. Perhaps that’s why the Washington Redskins are reportedly interested in Logan.

"Bennie Logan, who was a target of the Redskins last year before he signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs, will be on the market and presumably, he will draw the interest of Washington."

Washington would know as well as any team what Logan can do after facing him as an Eagle for several seasons.

It will be interesting to see how free agency plays out for Logan. Can he average the same $8 million amount as last year on a longer deal? Will the Chiefs retain him? If not, can they replace him along a line that already needs an upgrade in quantity and quality? We’ll find out soon enough.
