Chiefs injury report: Akeem Hunt has shoulder sprain against Dolphins
By Matt Conner

The only injury of note from the Kansas City Chiefs win over the Miami Dolphins is a shoulder sprain for returner/running back Akeem Hunt.
For all of the serious injuries inflicted on the Kansas City Chiefs this year, including the difficult losses of safety Eric Berry and center Mitch Morse, they’ve remained relatively healthy down the stretch. That remains true even after the Chiefs’ latest win over the Miami Dolphins, where head coach Andy Reid said Akeem Hunt was the only injury of note from Sunday.
It’s a far cry from early in the season when the Chiefs were missing several key players either week to week or for the entire season. At one point, the entire offensive interior was injured along with several offensive skill players and cornerback Steven Nelson. Now the Chiefs are as deep as they’ve been all season with young players blossoming, new signings like Darrelle Revis finding their footing and players returning to health.

The shoulder sprain for Akeem Hunt will be something to watch. In Week 17, a player like Hunt would likely be a key player to count on given that Andy Reid could choose to rest starters. That means Hunt, a running back and return man, would be given serious reps. Now it might put the Chiefs in a weird position if Hunt isn’t ready to go. Is it worth signing a new player to allow Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt from having to take starter’s reps in Week 17.
The Chiefs will want to enter the playoffs as healthy as possible. The loss of Hunt makes them thin at a key point in the year. Maybe C.J. Spiller will be re-signed for the 15th time to provide a healthy body at running back, or maybe Charcandrick West will carry the full load in Week 17 to keep the roster the same. It’s not a major issue but it’s a concern for Brett Veach all the same.
Hunt has returned 22 kicks so far in 2017 with a longest run back of 42 yards.
