After four weeks of misery, the Kansas City Chiefs finally returned to the win column on Sunday against the visiting Oakland Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Oakland Raiders on Sunday despite missing one of their key defensive stars Marcus Peters.

Despite the fact the Chiefs won a game for the first time in over a month and looked good doing it, the main story from the game was the same as it has been for days and weeks: Peters. He was suspended this week for walking off the field against the New York Jets and having a confrontation with an assistant coach after the game.

So on cue, the Chiefs defense had their best game of the year against a team who had lit them up earlier in the year for over 400 yards passing in a game Peters played. As predicted, this brought out more than a few people claiming the defense is better without Peters and he should be traded.

I am not 100% against trading Peters, but it has to be for the right reason. If you want to trade him just because he’s a hothead, you don’t like his protest or something else non-football related, then you need to check yourself. You will be trading a top 10 (at worst) corner because he’s not perfect, which means there won’t be many guys left on the roster if that’s your stance.

If you are the Chiefs though and he is not in your future plans, then you should look hard at trading him. With two years left on his rookie cheap contract, he would bring back a great return. The Chiefs are looking at a rebuild that will take them two years to get back to real contention, which means he won’t be here when you are ready to make a run and you need picks this year. But if the Chiefs have any plans to keep him after this contract, than you can’t even look at a trade right now. He’s too good and way too cheap to give away because he’s not saint.

What should have been the story from this game is how well the Chiefs played on both sides of the ball. The defensive line absolutely destroyed the highest paid offensive line in football. It’s hard to say why they played so well but it seems like a combination of things. Eric Berry was on the sideline for the first time in months providing leadership and motivation that seemed to really spark the team. Bob Sutton changed a few things up like having Chris Jones rush outside of Justin Houston. The last piece of the puzzle was the Raiders just didn’t show up on Sunday. They played most of the game like a team who just didn’t want to be there.

The Chiefs crushed the Raiders on Sunday and that is always fun to watch. It was good to see the Chiefs play well again, but this doesn’t change many opinions of the season. They beat a team who looked like they didn’t want to be there. They settled for field goals when, against the Steelers or Patriots, those will have to be touchdowns. The Chiefs still play in the Show Me State and thus they will have to do a lot more to get all the fans back on the Super Bowl band wagon.
