Coach Reid said that the Chiefs will be sticking with Alex Smith this week as they play the Jets but wouldn’t commit to him for the rest of the season.

Late Friday afternoon it was announced that the Chiefs have waived tight end Ross Travis. While this isn’t necessarily a big surprise it’s surprising to me for now. Unless they are bringing in another tight end or promoting one from the practice squad it’s surprising to see the Chiefs with only two tight ends on the roster. Ross definitely had his struggles catching the ball and was targeted more than fans would like to see but that’s on the coaching not the player.

Reid on Monday also said that there were many issues that needed to be addressed on the offensive end including his play calling. He stressed that he believes this veteran group will get it figured out and turn things around. He gave Smith a vote of confidence even if it wasn’t for the rest of the season. Reid and the Chiefs have time to get it figured out but it needs to be soon.

Around the rest of the AFC West there are several big stories. The Chargers continue to put together wins and may be the best team in the division right now. The Chiefs will play them in three weeks and they desperately need to have the offensive issues straightened out by then. Kansas City plays Oakland in two weeks who will probably be down Michael Crabtree. Crabtree has been suspended two games for a fight with Aqib Talib who is also suspended for two games.

The Raiders could also be without Amari Cooper who injured his ankle and received a concussion on the same play. The Broncos meanwhile started Paxton Lynch for a game who promptly injured his ankle and is out 2-4 weeks. For the time being the Broncos will return to Trevor Siemian as the starter.
