Antonio Brown vs. Terrance Mitchell

It’s well known that the Chiefs don’t have their corners travel and cover specific receivers. Brown plays mostly in the left wide receiver position which would leave him matched up against the Chiefs Terrance Mitchell who plays in the right cornerback spot. Last season Mitchell stepped into that spot starting week 12 and played better than anyone expected for the rest of the season. Peters and Mitchell were both top 10 in yards per route covered over the last 5 weeks of the season.

Now going into week 6 of this season Mitchell currently ranks 63rd in yards per route covered in the NFL 22nd among right cornerbacks. PFF currently gives Brown a 51% advantage over Mitchell and the further you dive the more it becomes pretty clear why that is. Mitchell has not played terribly this season as he’s currently 4th in the NFL in catch percentage allowed (43%). But Mitchell has given up way too many yards in coverage and Brown is 2nd in yards per route run.

Brown has never really had a bad day against the Chiefs in 5 career games. Going into his 6th career game against the Chiefs he should be in line for another good day. I see Brown going for about 8 catches for 112 yards. It should be a surprise to no one as the Chiefs are 22nd against #1 receivers by Football Outsiders, and have historically struggled against top receivers. What will end up matter the most is that the Chiefs don’t have Justin Houston covering him on 3rd down in a crucial point in the game.
