Chiefs receiving core

With All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce leaving the game with a concussion just before halftime, the Chiefs receiving core really stepped up their game to fill that role. With quarterback Alex Smith’s best weapon going out, the offense didn’t seem to miss a beat. We saw multiple guys like tight end Demetrius Harris and tight end Ross Travis step up and make a few plays each.

We also saw guys like wide receivers Chris Conley, Albert Wilson, and Demarcus Robinson step up as well and make key plays. Conley is another role that will most likely have to be filled in by a guy like Robinson after Conley went down with an Achilles injury toward the end of the game.

Alex Smith did a great job spreading the ball around even with his best weapon out of the game. It shows that even when you take away a weapon or two on this offense, it can still drive down the field and score. We will see next week as the Chiefs travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers who will take on Conley’s role and if they can have the same type of success as the other guys I’ve listed above.

The injuries are definitely getting concerning, but luckily most of those injured players will be back at some point this season. I think it’s comforting to know that you have this much depth to be able to step up and the team almost not miss a single beat. Let’s give some credit to the guys that have stepped up and filled in for injured starters this year.
