The Kansas City Chiefs will be without linebacker Dee Ford when they suit up for Monday Night Football against the Washington Redskins.

Coming into the 2017 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs were called one of the deepest teams in the league. That very aspect is being tested early on as injuries are beginning to take their toll at key positions. The latest player being forced to miss time is Dee Ford, who is sitting out Week 4 due to a back injury.

Ford missed practice all week for the Chiefs who even had an extra day of rest this week heading into the Monday Night Football match-up at Arrowhead against the Washington Redskins. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to give Ford a chance to heal, which means the Chiefs will be untested on the other side of Justin Houston.

Ford is in a contract season with the Chiefs this year, who have already exercised his fifth year player option earlier this offseason. As a former first round pick, the Chiefs now have a choice to keep him at the more expensive price for next season or let him walk as a free agent. Picking up the option let the Chiefs enjoy a bit of security and the hope was certainly to see Ford blossom even more this year than he did last year with his breakout 10 sack campaign.

Without Ford, the Chiefs will turn to veteran linebacker Frank Zombo to help bolster the pass rush along with second round choice Tanoh Kpassagnon. Other pass rushing options like Tamba Hali and Dadi Nicolas remain on the Physically Unable to Play list.

So far this year, Ford only has 1 sack and now the injury will set him further back.
