Chiefs vs. Patriots: Matthew Slater, Reggie Ragland among inactives
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots will sit some valuable role players tonight among their inactives for Thursday night’s game.
The NFL season is finally upon us as the Kansas City Chiefs are set to play the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. It feels good to have real, meaningful football ready to be played, which means inactives have been released as each team sets their 45-man active roster for the evening.
For the Patriots, the inactives list includes an ace special teams player and wide receiver in Matthew Slater. For the Chiefs, the inactives list includes two players who will prove to be key later in the season still attempting to come back from ACL tears last season in linebacker Reggie Ragland and offensive lineman Parker Ehinger.
Here’s a complete list of Patriots inactives:
- Cole Croston, offensive line
- Cam Fleming, offensive tackle
- Nate Ebner, safety
- Matthew Slater, wide receiver
- Harvey Langi, linebacker
- Jacob Hollister, tight end
- Vincent Valentine, defensive line

The Kansas City Chiefs cut two players earlier in the day on Thursday in offensive lineman Jordan Devey and running back C.J. Spiller. The thought process behind both moves came down to financial savings. If both players sign again tomorrow, after Week 1 is officially over for the Chiefs, then the contracts for both players are not guaranteed, which will help the Chiefs front office down the road. Given that both players were cut, the Chiefs have two less inactives than the Patriots since they have two less players on the roster.
Here’s a complete list of Chiefs inactives:
- Reggie Ragland, linebacker
- Parker Ehinger, offensive line
- Jarvis Jenkins, defensive line
- Tyler Bray, quarterback
- D.J. White, cornerback
