The Kansas City Chiefs have signed defensive back Taurean Nixon to their practice squad and have released running back Devine Redding.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a series of smaller moves on Wednesday with the signing of defensive back Taurean Nixon to the practice squad. The Chiefs released running back Devine Redding in the process and also reached an injury settlement with cornerback J.R. Nelson in releasing him as well.

Nixon adds a journeyman defensive back to the practice squad and gives them another player in the secondary on the P.S. alongside Leon McQuay, the team’s sixth round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Nixon was the 7th round choice of the Denver Broncos two years ago in 2015 and won a Super Bowl ring in the process.

Nixon moved on and off the roster during his two years in Denver, but was placed on waivers earlier this summer. The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed him originally in July but he failed to stick in Florida. Now Nixon has been claimed by the Chiefs.

Redding, a rookie free agent this season, showed up fairly strong in the Chiefs final preseason game against the Tennessee Titans with 60 yards rushing, but he failed to make a lasting impression to maintain a roster spot. The Indiana product could catch on with another team.

Nelson was also a rookie free agent who maintained his roster spot through all of OTAs and training camp, but was placed on injured reserve. The small school product out of Montana beat the odds to land a spot for so long, but now will hope to latch on with another team.
