Andy Reid has served as head coach for two teams since 1999. What does history tell us about his track record with opening games?
The storied head coaching career of Andy Reid began in 1999 with the Philadelphia Eagles. Team ownership took a chance on a rookie head coach, expecting big things from him. Reid had plenty of experience as a coordinator and other lesser coaching roles. In the end, Reid lasted through to the end of the 2012 season, when the Eagles terminated their head coach of 14 years.
Reid had a couple suitors line up almost right away, two of them being the San Diego Chargers and Arizona Cardinals. There was talk that he was scheduled to visit both teams. This was my favorite story from that time. Reid was on his way to board the plane to go to Arizona, when Clark Hunt showed up and stopped him. It wasn’t but a few days later, after then general manager Scott Pioli was fired, when Andy Reid was hired as the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Reid has been the Chiefs head coach for the past four seasons and, paired with many great personnel moves, has led this team to much success. It’s a level Chiefs Kingdom has not enjoyed in a very long time.
