The Kansas City Chiefs 53-man roster is set (at least for the time being). We now know the team that will take the field against the New England Patriots this Thursday. As a general observation, the Chiefs are returning a huge portion of their roster from last season, so a large percentage of the Chiefs success will be dependent on the coaching staff being able to develop the guys that were already here. However, until this team plays a meaningful game for the first time, evaluating that improvement is all speculation. What is not speculation are the personnel differences from a year ago. I went back and looked at the Chiefs roster after final cuts to start the 2016 season and compared it to their current roster.
I thought about comparing the current roster to the one at the end of last season but I was curious to see how much the roster had evolved over the course of a full NFL calendar year. The Chiefs have proven that they will keep adding players throughout a season in order to give themselves the best chance to win. It happened last year and it will undoubtably happen again this season. So over the course of the past 12 months, how has the roster changed from the team that started last season and eventually went on to win 12 games and the AFC West?
Let’s take a look starting with the quarterback position.
