Tyreek Hill sounds confident and says the Kansas City Chiefs are “ready” as they head into Gillette Stadium to play the New England Patriots.

On Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs will play one of the most watched regular season games in franchise history. As the season-opening game in primetime against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium against the defending Super Bowl champs, the timing is perfect for the Chiefs to show the entire NFL what they’re capable of. It could also prove to be a disaster in front of a national audience. Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs wide receiver, says the team has been preparing for this moment for some time and he, for one, is ready to play under the lights.

“I think it’s big, especially for this team to come out for the first game of this season going against the world champions,” said Hill on Sunday.” It’s going to be a great challenge for us. We’re ready. We’ve been preparing for this all training camp and preseason, so I think we’re ready.”

Hill should know a thing or two about performing under pressure. Last season, he made the leap from fifth round pick facing an uphill climb to make a final roster all the way to being a Pro Bowl performer on special teams and offense. Now he’s been elevated to the Chiefs top receiver, with offseason comparisons to Antonio Brown being made. No pressure there.

“The way I was raised, I’m always ready for a challenge, no matter what it is,” Hill told the media on Sunday. “My grandparents raised me that way to never be afraid of pressure … whatever coach throws at me, I’m ready and I’ll give it 110 percent, whatever it takes to help this team out.”

Hill had 12 touchdowns for the Chiefs last season, including 6 receiving touchdowns among his 61 total catches. Given more of an opportunity to make plays on offense, Hill’s numbers should eclipse last season, although it also remains to be seen how defensive coordinators might adjust now that they have a full season of tape on the NFL’s fastest player.

The Chiefs and Patriots kick off the season on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. C.T.
