Ease into Labor Day weekend with a look at Patrick Mahomes highlights from last night’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
As if you’re really working right now. We’re all waiting for the holiday weekend to arrive so we can spend time with family, celebrate the virtues of Labor or whatever else we’re supposed to do with extra down time. That said, there’s no better way to get in the mood for a long weekend than looking at what Patrick Mahomes can do and dreaming of the future for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last night, Mahomes was the starting quarterback for the Chiefs at Arrowhead because it was the fourth and final preseason game. Fans were treated to visions of Mahomes starting under the lights due to the fact that the rest of the starters, including quarterback Alex Smith, earned the night off to rest up and prepare for the season-opening game in less than a week against the New England Patriots.
Given the chance to showcase his talents, Mahomes did just that. A 50-yard flick of the wrist. The ability to improvise. A potentially dominant offense resting on the shoulders of a quarterback who can make anything happen. Of course, there were also mistakes and errant throws, but the promise is there.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the marvels from Mahomes’ night against the Titans.
First, no highlight was more exciting than this, so let’s start at the top. Demarcus Robinson was the lucky recipient of this incredible improvised pass on the run, and both players looked good in the process. Mahomes sat in the pocket for some time and refused to go with the safety valve up top. Instead he bought time and ended up moving the chains down half of a football field.

The Titans pass rush couldn’t touch Mahomes last night, giving him plenty of time to find Robinson once again in the end zone. The touch on this pass is absolutely perfect, hitting Robinson in stride. Even if the coverage had been airtight, there’s no defending this pass.
Even other Chiefs quarterback enjoyed their time to shine at Arrowhead against the Titans horrible back-ups. Check out this pass from Joel Stave to Tevin Jones, who burns Kalan Reed so badly that he’s able to take it nearly 70 yards for the score.
All in all, it was a nice night under the lights at Arrowhead and a great way to close up the preseason. The Chiefs are a deep team and it’s clear that’s also true of quarterback.
