The Chiefs wrapped up their preseason on Thursday night. Who locked down their roster spot for the year? Who will be a surprise cut?
The Kansas City Chiefs preseason is in the books. Chiefs fans were finally able to enjoy watching Patrick Mahomes do all the things that he was famous for coming out of Texas Tech. While Mahomes will hog the preseason spotlight, there were also some players on the roster bubble that stood out against the Titans and elsewhere in the preseason. Let’s look at who most likely made the cut and who is still on the bubble after the last game of the preseason.
Roster Lock: Ukeme Eligwe
Coming into the last Chiefs preseason game against the Tennessee Titans this week Eligwe looked like a player that was destined for the practice squad. This seemed especially true when general manager Brett Veach made a trade for Reggie Ragland. Eligwe was praised this offseason with how fast he was picking things up. Eligwe finished his night against the Titans with six total tackles and an acrobatic interception that he tipped to himself at the line of scrimmage. Because he had such a strong showing, there is no way the Chiefs could stash him on the practice squad.
Roster Bubble: Justin March-Lillard
Justin March-Lillard is a prime example of how fast things can change in the NFL. Last season March was the starter next to Derrick Johnson. Now due to a very unlucky string of injuries and some recently acquired players he has tumbled down the depth chart. March showed he could still play Thursday night. Although March didn’t see the field until the third and fourth stringers started playing. This shows where he is currently sitting on the depth chart, and unfortunately, it seems he may be the victim of a numbers game.
