Kansas City Chiefs tight end Gavin Escobar recently tried his hand at several obstacles on the American Ninja Warrior course.

Gavin Escobar is even more athletic than we ever knew. When the Kansas City Chiefs first signed the former Dallas Cowboys tight end this offseason, his ability to make great catches drew all of the attention. However we should be paying more attention to his overall athleticism. Watch him as he tries out several obstacles from American Ninja Warrior.

As a former second round choice heralded for his great hands, Chiefs fans areĀ hoping for better luck that he had in Dallas, where he could never supplant Jason Witten and the offense never featured a second tight end. Ā Escobar has made the roster so far, but still faces still competition before roster cutdowns. It will be very important to watch his performance in the final game or two, especially if he can help significantly on special teams to separate himself from the competition.

Speaking of competition, thereā€™s plenty of it here as the Chiefs have been developing some guys in house for a while. Demetrius Harris has been the No. 2 tight end overall and despite a history of drops in 2016 as well as an arrest for marijuana possession earlier this offseason, Harris is looking great this preseasonā€”including a two touchdown performance against the Bengals last Saturday.

Ross Travis is another competitor, a former college basketball player turned tight end who has the raw skills to make the transition for sure. The Chiefs like what they see here, and they might be inclined to finish the development they started versus keeping Escobar on the roster. Then again, Travis could be a candidate for the practice squad, or maybe the team even keeps four tight ends.

Itā€™s also important to note that Orson Charles is also on the roster and provides some roster versatility and special teams play. As a fullback and tight end, Charles could be an interesting addition to the team as a player who can do multiple things, allowing for another position on the roster to carry more players.

However it works out, Escobar is definitely a talented player and could potentially turn to ANW when all is said and done.
