During the third week of the preseason, Tony Romo will make his broadcasting debut during the Seahawks-Chiefs game.

The very first NFL game broadcast on CBS Sports this season will be yet another opportunity for the Kansas City Chiefs to show the entire country what kind of talent they have on both sides of the ball. Scheduled to air on August 25, the third game of the preseason (and first on CBS) will feature the Chiefs taking on the Seattle Seahawks in what will also be the broadcasting debut of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Romo will be announcing the game along with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson. Romo officially retired and reached a lucrative deal with CBS to join their broadcasting team after flirting with the idea of playing for a new team this season. In fact, the Chiefs were one of a few teams linked with Romo in the offseason, along with the Denver Broncos, Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. Rumors were that Romo was willing to play for the Chiefs if there was room, but K.C. never once wavered from their public support of Alex Smith and, in the end, there wasn’t a single team willing to pay whatever Jerry Jones was asking for his back-up.

It will be interesting to see how natural Romo sounds providing commentary, although he should certainly have plenty of insight to add after 13 years in the NFL. The four-time Pro Bowler retired with a career record of 78-49 and now sits as the all-time passing leader of the Dallas Cowboys.

Former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green is also a CBS broadcaster working in conjunction with Greg Gumbel and Jamie Erdah.
