Spencer Ware named overrated RB for fantasy football
By Matt Conner
If you ask Matt Franciscovich from NFL.com, he’ll tell you that he doesn’t like the average draft position of Chiefs running back Spencer Ware.
Have you already drafted your fantasy football team for the 2017 NFL season? If so, you might have questioned your decisions at running back when it comes to how to gauge the Kansas City Chiefs backfield. As an insider in the know, you’re likely aware of the looming presence of Kareem Hunt over Spencer Ware’s shoulder. However, most casual fantasy football players are giving Ware a decent draft position.
Matt Franciscovich of NFL.com is concerned about seeing Ware drafted so high (No. 18 among running backs and No. 41 overall among all fantasy players). The columnist recently put Ware among his overrated running backs for 2017, alongside Marshawn Lynch of the Oakland Raiders and Leonard Fournette of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Specifically, Franciscovich mentioned the third round investment made in Kareem Hunt, out of Toledo, and believes he could even overtake Ware if he proves to be as well-rounded as advertised. He writes:
"If Hunt continues to show promise as a receiving threat, it’s not crazy to peg him as the third-down guy, at the very least, with the potential for a bigger role if Ware struggles."

Ware started strong last year, but lingering injuries and perhaps some fatigue set in, since Ware had never been the featured back in an offense before. Maybe more stamina and another offseason will yield a bright and shining version of Ware for his best season yet. It’s also possible that the Chiefs traded up to get Hunt for good reason that will prove itself as the regular season plays out.
Competition makes everyone better, and that’s good news for the Chiefs in 2017. However, it makes for a perplexing fantasy football conundrum, one in which Franciscovich says you should take Kareem Hunt more seriously than the average fantasy football player. .
