Kansas City Chiefs rookie QB Patrick Mahomes moved up to the second team offense on Sunday in St. Joe.

The Kansas City Chiefs arrived back in Saint Joseph, Mo. on Sunday for training camp. The players took the field and several players returned from injury. Bennie Logan and Travis Kelce returned to practice on Sunday. Chris Jones was activated from the PUP list and returned to practice as a limited participant. Steven Nelson and Terrence Mitchell missed practice with a groin strain and a hamstring injury respectively. During practice, rookie UDFA Ashton Lampkin headed to the tent with a knee injury.

The biggest news on Sunday was seen when players rotated through drills. Patrick Mahomes stepped in and took the second team repetitions in place of Tyler Bray. This isn’t monumental news as Mahomes should be able to take the reins from Bray, but it is newsworthy nonetheless. Mahomes continued his play at camp and pushed the ball down the field with the second string unit. After practice Andy Reid said that he thought Bray had played well on Friday night. However, he felt that Mahomes has earned a chance to play with the second unit. If Mahomes plays well against the Bengals on Saturday night you have to wonder if Bray gets his job back.

Several players talked after practice including Chris Jones, Travis Kelce and Rakeem Nunez-Roches. RNR told the media that he had gained almost 25 pounds mostly in his lower body. He is now playing at 310 pounds and the added weight showed on Friday night when he played nose tackle. Chris Jones told the media that he is currently on a plan and he will follow it through out the next couple weeks. When Kelce spoke he stated that had it been the regular season he would have practiced and played.
