The Kansas City Chiefs will get a taste of San Diego Chargers rookie wideout Mike Williams at some point, but not when they play early in Week 3.
The San Diego Chargers were supposed to see their offense flourish this season with a number of new additions. Instead, they’re going to be slower out of the gate to round into form as injuries have already taken their toll on the skill positions and offensive line. The good news is that top rookie wide receiver Mike Williams, the No. 7 overall pick, is expected to be back early enough to make a significant impact on the field.
One year after another top pick, defensive end Joey Bosa, held out due to contractual issues, another top pick in Williams will also miss the first part of the season. Unfortunately, Williams has no say in the matter as he deals with a herniated disc in his back, but doctors now say he could potentially return in October after using the first few weeks of the regular season (and current training camp time) to train and get his body right for the rest of the NFL season.

That means the Chiefs won’t be seeing Williams suit up on offense in Week 3, which is K.C.’s first divisional contest in 2017. However, they’re likely to see him in Week 15, if the former Clemson star remains healthy enough to play. The Chargers certainly hope so since they added Williams to help provide another legitimate target for Philip Rivers given Keenan Allen’s injury history.
The Chargers also lost second round rookie Forrest Lamp out of Western Kentucky for the entire season with a torn ACL.
Williams had a stellar season for the Clemson Tigers in 2016 with 98 catches for 1,361 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.
