The Los Angeles Rams are kicking the tires on veteran defensive lineman Tyson Jackson with a visit and workout on Monday.

Tyson Jackson will likely never live up to the initial draft investment made in him as the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he is, at the very least, looking to extend a longer-than-normal NFL career with a brand new team as he works out on Monday for the Los Angeles Rams.

Jackson entered the NFL with a lot of hype as an impact defensive lineman from Louisiana State University, and Scott Pioli made Jackson his first overall draft pick as the new general manager of the Chiefs. Unfortunately, Jackson never lived up to said hype, although he did turn in a decent performance as a five-year starter for the Chiefs. After his rookie contract wrapped, Jackson followed Pioli to the Atlanta Falcons where he’s started another 35 games for the last three seasons.

Now 31-years-old, the Rams are hoping Jackson has enough left in the tank to provide meaningful snaps along the defensive front. Jackson certainly brings Super Bowl experience after last year’s Falcons run. Jackson should also pay immediate dividends in case Michael Brockers’ injury issues remain and Aaron Donald continues to hold out. The Rams could use some depth along the defensive front, and Jackson can certainly provide that.

So far in his career, Jackson has played in 122 games, starting 90 of them, with 9 sacks, 16 passes defended and 265 total tackles.
