Wear your tank top in honor of former Chiefs center Eric Kush, who will miss the entire 2017 season after hamstring surgery.

The Chicago Bears will be down a man along the offensive line this year with the news that former Kansas City Chiefs center Eric Kush will have to miss the entire 2017 season after surgery to repair a torn hamstring.

Kush entered the NFL as one of former general manager John Dorsey’s first draft picks, a sixth round flyer taken on a small school lineman. Kush attended California University of Pennsylvania (their mascot is the Vulcan), whose most famous NFL alumni is, maybe, Erik Harris (honestly it’s not an impressive list).

After two years with the team, Kush was released before the 2015 regular season and bounced around from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Carolina Panthers to the Houston Texans to the St. Louis Rams. Kush eventually found a new home with the Bears and even started four games for Chicago in 2016.

Kush came in handy for the Bears last season when injuries took their toll on starters like Kyle Long and Josh Sitton and he filled in at guard. A versatile lineman who can play all along the interior, Kush was rewarded by Chicago’s general manager Ryan Pace with a two-year extension in February worth $2.7 million. Now instead of filling in the gaps in Chicago, Kush will be rehabbing with an eye on 2018.
