Locked on Chiefs: Gavin Escobar steps up in training camp
By Chris Clark
Gavin Escobar had his best day as a Chief taking advantage of extra snaps and catching multiple TDs.
When the Kansas CIty Chiefs headed to training camp many thought that Gavin Escobar would quickly overtake incumbent number two TE Demetrius Harris. Instead, Escobar has not produced much at training camp and has been running with the third team. On Friday he took advantage of Travis Kelce’s absence and caught multiple TDs from quarterbacks Tyler Bray and Patrick Mahomes. Escobar is a former Cowboy player that at this point could be on the bubble. If he continues to play the way he did on Friday, however, he should make the final roster.
With both Steven Nelson and Terrence Mitchell both missing practice on Friday some of the younger cornerbacks got a chance to show the coaches what they could do. Philip Gaines moved to the starting defense as did De’Vante Bausby. Bausby may sound familiar to fans as he was in Kansas City a couple of years ago as well. He had a great training camp and played well in the preseason but got hurt in the last preseason game. Eric Murray also got time with the starters subbing in for Eric Berry and made some plays as well. The Chiefs young DBs are showing they can play and that is a great problem to have.

At the end of camp on Friday Reid updated the media about the status of the players that didn’t practice. Travis Kelce has swelling on his knee. Charcandrick West couldn’t finish practice because of his ankle which has caused him to miss the last couple practices. Terrance Mitchell has a strained hamstring. Steven Nelson has a groin injury and Kenneth Baxter had surgery on his hand.
