The Kansas City Chiefs have signed two new wide receivers in Corey Washington and Robert Wheelwright as they churn over the bottom pieces of the roster.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to look at various pass catchers as they look toward preseason games. The latest moves include releasing two players and signing two more to replace them. Those saying goodbye are tight end Emanuel Byrd, who signed early this spring after the draft, and wide receiver Antwan Goodley, who was recently inked in the last few days.

The new signings include veteran wide receiver Corey Washington and rookie free agent Robert Wheelwright. The Chiefs will be Washington’s seventh NFL team since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2014, which doesn’t exactly bode well for his chances of making the final roster. A small-school product from Newberry, Washington originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals and went on to play for the New York Giants that same season—actually making the 53-man roster in the process. Since then, he’s played for the Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills.

Wheelwright identified the Chiefs as one of several interested teams at his pro day at the University of Wisconsin. Wheelwright was the team’s third leading receiver this year with 34 catches for 448 yards and 1 touchdown. The stat line doesn’t sound impressive, but in a run-heavy offense like the Badgers run, it’s hard for any wideout to really make his presence felt (the leading receiver, Jazz Peavy, had 635 yards). Wheelwright did perform well in his drills on pro day and comes into the NFL as a solid special teamer who can already block well as a wideout.
